WM Young Dems have their eyes on Congress - By Isaac Sarver

Ah, opportunities abound to help make democracy work this time of year. Nowhere was that truer than the streets of Hampton and Virginia Beach this weekend, where students from William and Mary joined with other volunteers and paid staffers for a GOTV canvass to tout Jim Webb and Phil Kellam in the run-up to Election Day.

9,000

That's how many doors were knocked on by canvassers for the Kellam campaign last weekend.

The number is astounding... More than any other campaigns' canvass in the COUNTRY for that weekend. By no means an easy feat to accomplish, but a sign of how energized Democrats are going into elections this weekend. This post however, is not about last weekend.

Once again, volunteers from the W&M Young Democrats joined other volunteers and paid staffers to walk the streets again on behalf of Jim Webb and Phil Kellam. One could hardly expect a repeat of the previous weekend's performance but, then again, Democrats make it their business to exceed expectations. Canvassers went out for two shifts, running mid-afternoon and late-afternoon with short breaks between. Despite cold temperatures, volunteers took to the pavement to spread a message of change. So how many doors did we hit?

12,000

On Saturday alone, canvassers managed to reach 12,000 doors in the 2nd Congressional District. Not only did they top their own performance from the previous weekend, they stayed on for another full day of canvassing. This isn't even counting the volunteers who phone banked Saturday evening to invite voters to a rally with Phil and Governor Kaine.

Our performance this weekend is yet another sign... We have the momentum, we have the drive, and we will be victorious on November 7th.
